Maths Tutoring in Ware and Hertford

I’m Helen, a qualified teacher who offers maths tutoring for students in Ware and Hertford. For over a decade, I’ve been helping hundreds of pupils pass their GCSE and SAT exams and taught all ages from Year 3 all the way through to Year 11. I always offer the first session free so you can try before you buy.

My Teaching Style

I always adapt my style to the students: if they want to cover something from school that they don’t understand, then that’s what we do.

At home, I have two whiteboards for the student and I to work on, and I use many different resources, online and offline, as well as games to keep the sessions fun.

Each week we start with a recap of the previous lesson to consolidate their learning, and I like to do short 10-minute assessments every couple of weeks to see how they are progressing.

With my primary pupils, I always finish with a maths game.

Services

An Individual Learning Programme

The first session is always free. This is a way for the students to get to know me, but also for me to get to know them. I can assess where they’re at and create a targeted learning programme to help them get where they want to be.

Prepare for GCSE and SAT Exams

Many of my students are in Years 5-6 or 10-11 and preparing for their exams. Whatever their starting level, I can help them get ready for the tests and achieve a good passing grade.

Maths and English Tutoring

I teach maths to students of all levels and most of my time is spent on that subject. If you’re looking for English tutoring, I also teach that to pupils of primary age.

Tips for Parents and Students

To get the best from our sessions, the students need to do some work on their own at home as well. Sometimes I set ‘formal’ homework, depending on their age and if I feel a topic needs reinforcing. But you can supplement the sessions by covering some important topics at home.

Primary Students
  • Learn their multiplication tables, so they can automatically answer questions such as 8 x 7 = 56
  • Learn to tell the time on an analogue clock
  • Know the months of the year in order and know the rhyme ‘30 days has September, April, June and November etc’
Secondary Students
  • Know their multiplication tables

Testimonials

Helen has tutored two of my children (Primary and GCSE maths level) and can honestly say she’s the best. We’ve had many tutors in the past and no one has been as good as her. So patient and always will go out of her way to help. If you are thinking of getting a tutor, I highly recommend Helen.

― Olivia, primary and secondary parent

Helen has been tutoring my 11 year old granddaughter in English and maths since March 2019 at her house and via Zoom over lockdown. My granddaughter is really enjoying the sessions (it’s not boring). Helen is very good at explaining and demonstrating making sure that that my granddaughter understands particularly if she is struggling with her school lessons. It’s certainly taken a lot of pressure off my home schooling.

Doreen, primary grandparent

Helen has worked wonders on my daughter’s confidence towards KS2 Maths. She adapts her sessions in a flexible way to ensure she is complimenting home schooling subjects and works at a pace that is just right for my daughter. This has been very effective and has really boosted her learning and enjoyment of the subject. We love Helen’s bouncy, chatty teaching style which makes it fun whilst her knowledge on the subject matter shines through.

― Donna, primary parent

Best  maths tutor I’ve had! Helen explains everything clearly and is very patient. Would definitely recommend.
